November 17th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.5.6 release and qBittorrent v2.0.0 news

Here is another bugfix release for qBittorrent v1.5.x while waiting for the next major release: qBittorrent v2.0.0. Development on v2.0.0 is going really well and we are hoping it will be ready in a month or so. qBittorrent v2.0 brings a lot of new features and UI changes. The list of changes is available here but to summarize it should be a very close equivalent to the official Bittorrent client: µTorrent, in all levels: features, UI, lightness.

November 4th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.5.5 release

While we are making good progress on qBittorrent v1.6.0, people are still are still reporting some issues with v1.5.4. As a consequence, we are releasing today a new bugfix release to address these remaining problems.

We released today another bugfix release for qBittorrent v1.5.x series. This is likely to be the latest release in this series since qBittorrent v1.6.0 is underway.

qBittorrent v1.6.0 will be based on the new libtorrent-rasterbar v0.15 which brings a lot of new features.

qBittorrent v1.5.1 was just released. It contains few fixes but two of them are quite important. It is strongly advised to update to this new bugfix release.

September 3rd 2009 - qBittorrent v1.5.0 final was released

After several betas and release candidates v1.5.0 was finally released and we are hoping that you will enjoy it. This new major release is still based on libtorrent-rasterbar v0.14.5, which is now pretty stable but it brings a lot of new interesting features as well as a lot of polishing. This new version works better than ever and it is easier than ever to use.

Next release should be based on new libtorrent-rasterbar v0.15.0 and bring a lot of new features. We will also put a lot of effort into making qBittorrent the Linux µtorrent-like client.

August 30th 2009 - We are looking for translators

qBittorrent is currently translated (at least partly) in more than 20 languages. Unfortunately, since the beginning of the project we lost some translators and now their translations are left outdated.

We are looking for people to replace the translators we lost (or even to introduce new languages if you are motivated). It is not a lot of work because there is not so much to translate and most translations are already well started.

The translations which are outdated are the following: Japanese, Polish, Catalan, Danish, Bokmal (Norwegian) and Ukrainian.

August 27th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.5.0rc2 release: call for feedback

A second release candidate for qBittorrent v1.5.0 is now available. This release looks quite stable but I would really like to get more feedback. v1.5.0 brings a lit of new features and I hope some of you can update to this rc2 and help me make sure it is stable enough for final release.

Note that most translations are not up to date yet but they will be real soon. This rc2 should be able to resume your torrents from qBittorrent v1.4.x or earlier.

Avoid using rc1, rc1 code for resuming v1.4.x torrents was buggy and you may loose torrent custom settings. rc2 fixes those problems.

August 21st 2009 - v1.4.1 release and first beta for qBittorrent v1.5.0

I have just released a first beta v1.5.0 which already includes quite a few new features. It is still based on libtorrent v0.14.x so the overall stability should be good.

The most important features that were added already are magnet URI support and a huge amelioration of the RSS manager part. Torrents can be automatically downloaded from RSS feeds given a set of filters that you define.

I also uploaded qBittorrent v1.4.1 which contains a few fixes for bugs I encountred while working on v1.5.0

August 13th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.4.0 final

I have just released qBittorrent v1.4.0 final, after several betas and release candidates. I did not get any bug reports regarding recent release candidates so this new major release seems ready to go live.

This new releases a long-awaited feature: one can now define a different folder (aka temporary folder) for incomplete downloads. Note that this is also the first release of qBittorrent to provide official support for Mac OS (dmg will be uploaded soon).

August 10th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.4.0rc2 available on Mac OS

We have a great news for all Mac OS users out there!

Stefanos Antaris have just ported qBittorrent v1.4.0rc2 to Mac OS (Leopard). He uploaded the DMG file to sourceforge so that you can all test it.

Please test qBittorrent on Mac OS and report any problem you may experience, preferably before final release.

August 6th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.4.0rc2 ready for feedback

I have just uploaded qBittorrent v1.4.0rc2. More translations were updated and I fixed some bugs with new "temporary directory" feature. I also made a few changes to Azureus Spoofer, please notify me if you notice changes on this part. Finally, libtorrent-rasterbar detection by configuration was greatly improved thanks to pkg-config.

Please test this release and report back as soon as possible, before I make it final. Thanks in advance to you all.

July 27th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.4.0rc1 ready for feedback

I have just released qBittorrent v1.4.0rc1. Not all translations are up-to-date yet but translators are working on it. I'm hoping to release v1.4.0final before the end of August so I would like to get as much feedback as possible before then.

Please download and use this first release candidate and report any problem you may experience. I'm especially interested in feedback regarding to new temporary folder feature for incomplete downloads.

Also, please note that I'm going on vacation this evening for a duration of approximately ten days and I probably won't have an internet connection during this period. Therefore, I'll take care of all bug reports and questions when I return.

July 24th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.3.5 available for download

Since v1.3.4 release, I got a lot of feedback and I fixed all reported problems and bugs. Therefore, I'm releasing a v1.3.5 which should be as stable as ever.

I should release v1.4.0rc1 this week end. Translators were contacted to update language files and make v1.4.0 final ready for release as soon as possible.

I had some free time today and I decided to have a bug squashing day. As a result, I closed as much bug reports and feature requests as possible in one day. Ubuntu Jaunty v9.04 was released recently. We are happy to announce that qBittorrent v1.3.3 is now available from Ubuntu official repositories.

April 6th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.3.3 bugfix release

We released today another bugfix versionned v1.3.3. A lot of work was done on search engine plugins to support unicode and to make them more flexible. Some other minor bugs were fixed too.

Also, we added an exception to our GPLv2 license for OpenSSL (used by two dependencies: libtorrent and libcurl), as requested by Debian maintainer: Cristian Greco.

qBittorrent v1.3.2 was just released. This is a minor release whose main purpose is to fix compilation against the new Qt 4.5 library. However, some other bugs that were reported after v1.3.1 release were fixed as well. Libtorrent-rasterbar v0.14.2 is strongly advised as its fixes a lot of issues.

January 26th 2009 - qBittorrent v1.3.1 bugfix release

Happy Chinese new year! We are releasing today qBittorrent v1.3.1 which fixes some bugs we found after the release of v1.3.0.

It is recommended to upgrade, especially if you experience download / upload speed decrease with qBittorrent v1.3.0.

Unfortunately, libtorrent-rasterbar v0.14.2 was not released yet but we should not have to wait too long. qBittorrent v1.3.1 and libtorrent-rasterbar v0.14.2 should be a perfect match. In the meantime, libtorrent-rasterbar v0.14.1 will do fine.

qBittorrent v1.3.0 will be released soon (before the end of this year). It is the first release of qBittorrent based on libtorrent-rasterbar v0.14.x.

I have just release a public test version tagged v1.3.0rc3. Please test it as much as possible and report any problem you may experience before I proceed with its release as final. Thanks a lot to you all in advance.

qBittorrent code was partly rewritten to consume even less memory and cpu. qBittorrent should be lighter than ever :) Some nice features were added too, such as: Torrent force recheck, moving torrents during downloads, better WebUI, better torrent queueing... I hope I did not break things because of this code rework.

October 29th 2008 - qBittorrent v1.2.0 final released

This is a very important day for qBittorrent and for the people involved in it. We are proud to announce the final release of qBittorrent v1.2.0. This is a major release, with a lot of new features and improvements.

October 4th 2008 - qBittorrent v1.2.0rc3 (unstable) released

Thanks to the people who tested qBittorrent v1.2.0 first two release candidates and thanks to our translators, we are releasing today the third release candidate (and hopefully the last one).

This version fixes several bugs including an important one which was introduced in rc2. It is strongly recommended to upgrade to rc3. Also, more translations are now up to date (although there is still work to do).

Please test rc3 and report any problem you may experience before final release.

September 28th 2008 - qBittorrent v1.2.0rc1 (unstable) released

After 6 betas, here comes the first release candidate for qBittorrent v1.2.0. Graphical user interface was remodeled for simplicity and Web UI was improved a lot. v1.2.0 also introduces long-awaited features such as torrent queueing system and better proxy support.

Please test this release candidate and report any problem before final release. Note that most translation are outdated and they will be updated before final release.

August 1st 2008 - qBittorrent v1.1.1 (stable) released

After 3 betas and 2 releases candidates, the time has finally come to release qBittorrent v1.1.0 final.

This new major release brings qBittorrent a step further with nice features such as a Web user interface, improved IP filter support, Azureus spoofing and much more.

I would like to thank all the people involved in this project. qBittorrent is now 2 years old and more and more people are contributing to it.

Finally, I'm also releasing qBittorrent v1.2.0beta1 today. July 10th 2008 - qBittorrent v1.1.0beta3 (unstable) in Debian

qBittorrent is now in Debian sid/untable! This is a very good news and we are extremely grateful to Cristian Greco, the maintainer.

July 7th 2008 - qBittorrent v1.1.0beta3 (unstable) released

qBittorrent v1.1.0beta3 was just released. Some changes were made in this beta and in libtorrent (now named libtorrent-rasterbar) v0.13.1 to make integration in Debian easier. This may be the last beta of qBittorrent, so please let us know if you experience any issue. Translations will be updated for the first release candidate.

We would like to thank Cristian Greco for his useful advice concerning qBittorrent integration in Debian. Now, let's hope that qBittorrent and libtorrent-rasterbar find their way into the Debian repositories :)

May 18th 2008 - qBittorrent v1.1.0beta1 (unstable) released

qBittorrent v1.1.0beta1 has just been released.You should be aware that this is a first beta and that it may contain some bugs. However, if you are willing to take the risk, this beta offers great new features such as the Web interface, Azureus spoofing (to avoid ban), better tracker handling, PeerGuardian files support (and other IP Filter improvements).

April 11th 2008 - qBittorrent v1.0.0 released

qBittorrent's team is proud to announce that qBittorrent v1.0.0 (final) was just released. This version brings a lot of features and it was tested during a very long time so we believe it is ready for prime time

It is based on latest libtorrent v0.13 that was released just a few days ago (after a very long testing period too)

December 9th 2007 - qBittorrent v1.0.0rc10 released

Here come our tenth (and probably the last) release candidate for qBittorrent v1.0.0. This release contains several minor bug fixes and we rewrote the ETA calculation algorithm from scratch because we weren't satisfied with the old one. The new one should be more accurate, optimized and far more stable.

We made a new libtorrent svn snapshot too. It is important to update because some major bugs were fixed recently (like the termination problems and cpu usage spikes).

It is likely that this release candidate will be the final release. We just need to wait for libtorrent 0.13 to be released as final too (it shouldn't be too long as it has been pretty stable recently).

November 24th 2007 - qBittorrent v1.0.0rc9 released

qBittorrent rc9 was just released, with a whole lot of bug fixes. People who experienced problems with qBittorrent that won't exit or with downloads restarting from scratch on restart are strongly advised to update to rc9. We also did a lot of improvements on proxy support for search engine, RSS and downloads from urls. It is strongly advised that you update your libtorrent snapshot to the latest available because a lot of bugs were fixed in it too.

I would also like to use this opportunity to officially welcome Ishan Arora in the qBittorrent development team. He is our Indian representative and he is working (or will work) on Real progress bar, Web interface, Windows port... He is good, we can expect good stuff from him soon.

November 14th 2007 - qBittorrent v1.0.0rc8 released

Here comes rc8 for qBittorrent v1.0.0. Files filering is back, I apologize for my buggy patch I introduced in rc7. Appart from that we didn't get much feedback and I guess this is a good sign. The last svn snapshot for libtorrent v0.13 is getting pretty stable too. qBittorrent v1.0.0 final release should occur just after libtorrent 0.13 is released (at least as a release candidate).

We are releasing the seventh release candidate for qBittorrent v1.0.0. It fixes some problems, especially when using a recent libtorrent svn snapshot. It is now advised that you update to the latest libtorrent available since it fixes a lot of bugs that were reported.

Also, please note that Jeffery Fernandez finished packaging qBittorrent for OpenSuse (10.2 and 10.3) for 32bits and 64bits.

September 1st 2007 - qBittorrent v1.0.0beta6 released

This new beta release adds a feature that many users have been waiting for: a search engine plugin management system. This means that now, users can write their own plugins (see wiki for more infos) for their favorite search engines. This feature was planned for v1.1.0 but I finished it early and I couldn't wait. Search engine plugins was also improved to get more results thanks to multipage support.

It is strongly advised that you update your libtorrent using the latest one in download page if you are using qBittorrent v1.0.0beta.

Indeed, some critical bugs have been fixed and it should be a lot more stable.

August 4th 2007 - qBittorrent v1.0.0beta4

The beta4 of qBittorrent v1.0.0 is out. No new features but a lot of bug fixes and RSS code was mainly rewritten.

A lot of you couldn't compile beta3 because of an error when using boost 1.33.1, this is fixed: I apologize for this.

Please note that there are still some known bugs in libtorrent svn that cause qBittorrent to crash sometimes. Libtorrent'author is working on fixing them, so please keep your libtorrent up to date.

Also, please note that qBittorrent documentation was completed and it is available on the wiki (in French and English). We are still looking for people in order to help us with the project (windows porting, translation, development...), please contact me if you are interested.

July 5th 2007 - qBittorrent v1.0.0beta1

We decided to release a first beta of qBittorrent v1.0.0 to get public testing before final release. As you may guess, v1.0.0 is a major release, with a lot of new features and code rewriting. This is why we want it to be tested as much as possible before hitting stable. This version is already pretty stable so it shouldn't be too risky to test it. As always, it shouldn't be used in production because this is still in beta stage.

Among the new features, we can announce UPnP/NAT-PMP support, RSS Feeds, encryption (compatible with Azureus), files prioritizing in a torrent, a new tab for finished torrents (to make seeding easier), ability to edit torrents' trackers, styles support (better Gnome integration with Cleanlooks), an improved torrent creation module, search engine is now multi-threaded for faster results, bandwidth limiting per torrent, better proxy support, IPs blocked by ipfilter are now logged in GUI. We also fixed almost all the bugs that were reported and the GUI was redesigned a little.

Since it is still a beta, new features are likely to be introduced before final release too.

June 20th 2007 - Some news

We are proud to welcome a new member in qBittorrent team : Jarek Smieja. He is our new Mandriva packager. Packages for Mandriva Spring 2007.1 are now available!

We would like to thank the guys at TooLinux who accepted to put qBittorrent banner on their first page, for a week. This is a great website, I recommend it to you if you are a french-speaking person.

I will have exams next week, hence I apologize if I'm less available and if qbittorrent development is slower until early july. A first beta of qBittorrent v1.0.0 should be available in early July too.

June 13h 2007 - Documentation

We started to write some documentation on qBittorrent wiki. At the moment, you will already find a qBittorrent/libtorrent svn compiling howto (in English and French).

More documentation should arrive before v1.0.0 release and it will be translated in French too.

People are asking for documentation, so we will write it.

June 12th 2007 - Mirror in China?

qBittorrent project is looking for a free webspace (20-30MB) in China to mirror its Debian/Ubuntu packages.

Unfortunately, our main server is blocked in China, which is sad because qBittorrent is translated into Chinese.

June 10th 2007 - Exams...

Just a short news to tell you that qBittorrent development will resume in July. Recently I couldn't find time to code qBittorrent because of school projects and now I must prepare for the exams.

Soon I'll have two months of holidays and you can expect new stuff in qBittorrent and probably the v1.0.

May 7th 2007 - qBittorrent v0.9.3 released

We have just released qBittorrent v0.9.3. As you can guess from the version number, this is a bugfix release. Here is the changelog:

May 4th 2007 - Libtorrent v0.12 released

Libtorrent v0.12 by Arvid Norberg was just released stable. Please update your libtorrent to get the latest bug fixes. Debian / Ubuntu packages for libtorrent are up to date.

A bugfix release of qBittorrent (v0.9.3) is probably going to be released soon to fix the reported bugs.

April 24th 2007 - Holidays

I will spend my holidays abroad and I won't have access to the internet for a week.

Hence, I will make a short break in qbittorrent development and I won't be able to answer my e-mails nor take care of the bug tracker this week.

April 10th 2007 - qBittorrent v0.9.2 released

We have just released v0.9.2 of qBittorrent that fixes some minor bugs. More than that, it will compile with libtorrent v0.11 although v0.12 is still advised. Also, A new language is supported : Japanese.

We also updated libtorrent source and packages to v0.12rc2+svn.20070410 that fixes some bugs too.

qBittorrent is now supporting 24 languages and it is getting even more stable than before.

Debian / Ubuntu repositories are already up to date.

April 9th 2007 - qBittorrent in launchpad

We decided to add qBittorrent to Launchpad by Canonical.

At first, we are going to use it as a bug tracker (Bug reports, Feature requests, Q&A...), and as a Roadmap / TODO list. We may also use its translation interface(rosetta) in the future.

April 4th 2007 - qBittorrent v0.9.1 released

We decided to make a small minor release due to some problems experienced by the users concerning the configure file. The configure has been greatly improved and it should be a bit easier to compile qBittorrent.

There are no other changes in the application, no need to update if you managed to install v0.9.0.

This release includes a lot of interesting new features such as Peer Exchange (PeX) support, autocompletion, new system tray popups, better internationalization, a lot of code rewriting (optimized and cleaned). It is also based on latest libtorrent library by Arvid Norberg (v0.12) and latest Qt 4.2 for Graphical User Interface.

We also fixed a lot of bugs to make qBittorrent as stable and as reliable as possible. We are really thankful to the people who gave us feedback and helped use improve qBittorrent.

We really hope that you will enjoy this new release and that you will keep on supporting the qBittorrent project. Also, we already progressed a lot on v0.10.0alpha and you can expect UPnP Port Forwarding, RSS Feeds and Visual Styles supports soon.
